Our firm's history

The firm was founded by Rene Cacheaux, Daniel Cavazos and Joseph B. Newton in January, 1994, with offices in San Antonio, McAllen and Mexico City. The founding partners had years of experience representing global clients in complex business transactions and related legal issues in Mexico and the U.S. As commercial ties among NAFTA signatories Canada, Mexico and the U.S. grew, CCN expanded its geographic presence and scope of legal services. Today, CCN advises leading companies in the automotive, electronics, real estate, textile, energy, agricultural, and general manufacturing sectors. Additional growth has come from Mexican and other foreign investors carrying out business and investment activities in Texas and throughout the U.S.

1994
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) takes effect on January 1st. Three weeks later, on January 24, 1994, CCN is founded by Rene Cacheaux, Joseph (Joe) Newton and Daniel Cavazos. The firm establishes offices in San Antonio and McAllen, Texas and in Mexico City.
1997
CCN opens its Reynosa office in the State of Tamaulipas, Mexico.
1998
Client growth leads the firm to open offices in Queretaro and Matamoros, Mexico. 
2000
CCN expands into Mexico’s industrial center in the state of Nuevo Leon with an office in Monterrey.
2004
The first issue of the CCN MexicoReport™ is published.
2005
CCN opens its Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua office.
2008
The CCN Corporate Center is established in CCN’s office in Queretaro, Mexico.
2011
The firm opens its third Texas office in Austin.
2013
Seeking to expand its U.S.-Mexico border coverage, CCN opens its Tijuana, Baja California office.
2015
In response to growth in the technology, agriculture and real estate sectors, CCN opens its Guadalajara, Jalisco office, giving the firm a presence in Mexico’s three largest urban centers.
2020
The United States of America, Mexico and Canada Agreement (USMCA) enters into force on July 1, 2020. CCN publishes the CCN Guide to the USMCA.
2022
The first edition of CCN MexicoReport™ Podcast is launched.
